Lights Out Suggestion by rekit Lights Out Suggestion by rekit
I'm sure this has been suggested already, but oh well.. here's another vote for it!

Many artists intend for their work to be displayed on specific mattes.. I think it'd be fantastic if dA implemented a feature to allow either the viewer AND/OR the artist to choose between 2 or more mattes on which the deviation is set. It could be temporarily changed if the viewer is the one making the decision, or permanently changed if the artist is the one making the decision.

If you like the idea and think it could help make dA even better, please give it a :+fav:

I think it's a great idea, actually even so obvious that I wonder why it does not exist yet. Mattes are pretty commonplace in photo galleries since javascript libraries like Lightbox have spread the technique.

Regardless of the technical aspects, I think as an artist giving your viewers the possibility to view your artwork the way you intended / recommend it to be viewed would be a good thing.

I like the idea! I'm all for it! Even in this example you can see how nice the image looks. I like how some place have it when an image is clicked on, its like it opens in a new window but everything is darker like that, very cool.

Maybe darkening the whole screen would be better, though?

As a photographer, why dont you just add a small white/black/whatever border around your photos if you want it to be shown with a specific background. Then you would end up getting the same effect as if the entire background were to be that color.

It would be very annoying if the photographer could change the colors of DA since then whenever you would be browsing around the background would keep changing... and if you let the user pick the background, then it would only match with what background color you had in mind for the photo every so often, and be wrong just like now - just as often as now.

a border wouldn't give the same affect as changing the color of the entire page, unless the border was really big.. it's like the difference between wearing sunglasses that cover your whole field of vision, and sunglasses that let lots of light in from the top, bottom, and sides

But it gives a pretty good effect without annoying the users like the way this suggestion would.

Nice idea. Although I dn't like the idea of the artist being able to force it on. It should be an optional viewing mode.

Hmm. depends on how it would be implemented but regardless of how its done, allowing the artist to require it to be viewed a certain way would turn a lot of people off from it. Optional is best, and i do think this is a great idea :)

if the artist was the one who decided it, what I was thinking was when you submit a deviation, you could select the shade of the page background from a drop down menu or something.. if you wanted a dark page or light page, etc. the normal light green page would be defaulted for those artists who want to leave it alone

and from the viewers perspective - everytime you go to look at a deviation, the page background would be the light green color, unless the artist had chosen one of the other shades.
